Join the Maldives Marine Shark Conservation Program for an 8-day cruise around the Maldives, learning about conservation challenges faced by the Island nation and participate in environmentally beneficial activities such as marine life data collection, contribute to coral nurseries and beach cleanups and participate in educational talks to learn more about biodiversity and conservation.
Starting in Male, you'll board the MV Felicity and meet the team from Whale Shark Research Program (MWSRP) and begin sailing to the South Male Atoll, where you'll have the opportunity to snorkel after a responsible snorkelling briefing. You'll also have an opportunity to meet with the NGO Save the Beach who will provide you with information about the local coral reefs and the challenges they face.
Continuing on our cruise we'll pass through the South Ari Atoll, home of the whale shark, en-route to Dhangethi Island where we'll spend the night onboard. Whilst here you'll have time to snorkel, learn about why seagrass has become known as the lungs of the earth and watch the amazing sunset over Dhangethi. Whilst in South Ari Atoll, we'll also participate in a whale shark safari to capture research data which we'll then collate and input to the MWSRP database. Should we encounter whale sharks you'll have the once in a life time chance to snorkel along side them, though you'll need to swim fast to keep up with them!
As we reach Central Ari Atoll, we'll have a Robinson Crusoe experience as we visit a remote uninhabited island and give back, with a beach clean up.
As we change course and head back to South Male Atoll. get ready to snorkel with turtles and a visit to the island of Gulhi. Whilst on Gulhi you'll experience island life and join a Maldivian them night which will include a famous Bodu Beru musical performace. Our time in the Maldives ends on a high as we snorkel with Sting Rays, Banner Fish and visit the Save the Beach coral nursery in Villimale.
This cruise operates with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 passengers, with limited departures throughout the year, booking early is recommended.
