Kamakura ist ein beliebtes inländisches Touristenziel in Japan als Küstenstadt mit einer hohen Anzahl an saisonalen Festivals sowie alten buddhistischen und shintoistischen Schreinen und Tempeln. Kamakura ist unter Buddhisten dafür bekannt, dass es im 13. Jahrhundert die Wiege des Nichiren-Buddhismus war.
