There isn't a lot of wildlife on either North- or South Island of New Zealand and this mainly because it is a new and remote country, risen from the sea. You will find a lot of space, nature in all varieties, plenty of sheep and the local Kea bird (a small parrot). In the far south you may even find a few penguin species and the mighty Albatross. Taupō is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Taupō, New Zealand's largest lake. This is a beautiful lake with picturesque surrounding, but also the caldera of the Taupō Volcano.
