India and China are the most populous countries on the planet. India is called "a continent by itself" even though it is part of Asia. It is very colorful with lots of traditions, festivities, sports (very British), dance, film and music (Bollywood!). Indian kitchen & cooking with curries, chapatis, vegies, chilis, etc is world-famous and delicious. Financial wealth is not spread evenly: a small percentage of the people is extremely rich, a middle class with good education is comparable to western standards and the majority is still very, very poor.

Manali is a small city, but the the beginning of an ancient trade route through Ladakh, over the Karakoram Pass to China. Manali is a popular tourist destination in India for mountaineering and trekking as well as the gateway to the city of Leh in Ladakh.
