Activities, Excursions of Maria Island (Australia).

Australia is the country/continent "down-under". It is completely surrounded by water and - except for the coastal regions - a huge desert (Red Center). Main tourist attractions are the Great Barrier Reef (Cairns), the Great Ocean Road, Ayers Rock (Alice Springs), Sydney and all the magnificent wildlife (in particular birds and reptiles). Melbourne is very sport oriented and Tasmania is proud to have the "best air". Having a BBQ on the beach on Christmas day is normal in Australia, but quite special to most northern visitors.

Maria Island is an island east of Tasmania. There are no real hotels or roads for cars here, though it is possible to camp. Transportation is either walking or bicycling.

The island is quite unique and in use as a refuge (sanctuary) for typical Australian, endangered animals like the Tasmanian Tiger.
